Hillcrest High School Senior Pashance Booth poses for a photo at the Black Creativity Exhibition. Artwork by Booth and senior Jordin Ortiz on display at the museum.

Two talented students from Hillcrest High School in Bremen High School District 228 are earning regional recognition after having their artwork selected for the Black Creativity 2026 Juried Art Exhibition at the Kenneth C. Griffin Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

Now in its 56th year, Black Creativity is one of the longest-running juried exhibitions of Black art in the United States. The annual showcase celebrates the artistic, scientific and cultural contributions of Black innovators and creators, featuring nearly 200 works from professional and emerging artists across the country. Selection into this juried exhibition is a significant and competitive achievement.

Among those selected are Hillcrest students Pashance Booth and Jordin Ortiz, whose artwork is now on display inside one of Chicago’s most respected museums.

“This accomplishment means a lot to me,” said Pashance Booth. “I felt honored to have my art in a museum for people to look at and appreciate. It was also a moment that made my family very proud and it was an amazing experience all around that I won’t forget.”

For both students, the opportunity represents more than having their work exhibited — it reflects their dedication, creativity and willingness to share their voices beyond the classroom. The Black Creativity exhibition provides young artists with a powerful platform, placing their work alongside established creatives while celebrating culture, innovation and artistic expression.

Hillcrest High School and Bremen High School District 228 remain committed to supporting students in all areas of achievement — including the visual arts. Opportunities like Black Creativity highlight the exceptional talent within our schools and reinforce the importance of fostering creativity as part of a well-rounded education.

Congratulations to Pashance Booth and Jordin Ortiz on this outstanding accomplishment. Your creativity and hard work make the entire D228 community proud.
