SYLLABUS

 

INSTRUCTOR:          MR. MARK FURSTENAU

TIME:                          7TH AND 8TH PERIOD

CREDIT:                    TWO (2)

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION
     This two hour course is open to juniors and seniors who are interested in teaching or working in an educational environment.  Students will learn about various theories, issues in education, and the characteristics of the school-aged child.  In this class, students will gain practical experiences by teaching to their peers in assigned groups the various topics of the class, observe the many different classrooms in Oak Forest High School, and be placed in a local elementary, middle or junior high school.  At their cooperating school, they will be assisting their cooperating teachers in the classroom.  Students will create a portfolio the shows their work in the course.  It also serves as their final exam in the second semester.  

The department of Labor forecasts indicate that there is a great need for successful teachers.  The need will significantly increase in the years to come.
