Inspiring The Next Generation Of Teachers

The Teaching Internship program provides the opportunity for high school students to explore the educational field before college.  The program allows students to gain knowledge of educational theories while receiving practical experiences in today's elementary and middle school classrooms.

This program is a two hour class in the Family and Consumer Science Department.  It is for interested juniors and seniors who have expressed a desire to learn about the educational field.  Students interested in the program fill out an application (see Home page) verifying their attendance, grade point average, and other academic information.  The students are required to hand in a typed paper about their reason for becoming a teacher.  Also, they are asked to have at least two teachers to give letters of recommendation.  Finally, the students have an interview with the program's coordinator.  After all of the paper work and interview is over, the students are selected by the coordinator, and the students are informed if they are in the program or not.  This selection process takes place in January.
