Student Resource Center--Gold

  • A comprehensive online research database covering a broad range of topics targeted to middle and high school curricula.

  • Contains overviews, essays, timelines, biographies, literary criticism, photographs, audio and video files as well as primary source documents.
  • Includes sections listing Classroom Topics and Multimedia Gallery, with links.
  • Includes full text information about health.

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center

  • Complete, one-stop source for social issues

  • Access to viewpoint articles, statistics, links to additional websites

Student Edition

  • Formerly Infotrac SuperTOM--includes full-text magazine and newspaper articles as well as reference material

  • Covers current events, the arts, science, popular culture, sports, people, government, etc.

Grolier Online  con linked to database

All databases are interconnected and provide additional links for further research:

  • Encyclopedia Americana -- includes searchable database of current events

  • New Book of Knowledge -- includes 4 weekly current events stories with lesson plans

  • Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia -- text of Academic American Encyclopedia, animations, videos, panoramas, sounds

  • Lands and Peoples -- information about countries, cultures and current events.  Global News Desk contains 3 weekly stories with lesson plans

  • America the Beautiful -- information about states and U.S. territories, presidents, Native Americans, timelines, educational games and puzzles.

  • New Book of Popular Science -- 3 weekly current science stories, with lesson plans

Password for use of this database with non-District computers is available via Grolier First Time Home Users.

SWAN  

This is the System-Wide Area Network of 78 libraries in the south and west suburbs of Chicago.

·      The catalog lists more than 1 million titles of books, periodicals, cassettes, videos, CDs, DVDs and other library materials.

·        SWAN’s online catalog may be searched by Author, Title, Subject, Author/Title combination and all categories.  Full keyword searching as well as limiting by format, publication date and language are also available on SWAN.

·       Patrons can use SWAN to check the catalog or to check a specific library’s holdings.
